THEORIZING THE JUST WAR: COMPROMISING REALISM AND IDEALISM WITH THE MIDDLE WAY OF THE ENGLISH SCHOOL AND GROTIAN RATIONALISM
War, which is one of the Amost important concepts of the discipline of International Relations, has been studied from different perspectives for many years, and has led to the formation of a rich literature on how it can be prevented, within the framework of which rules, how to end it and its results. At this point, the just war theory has gained importance and has been studied extensively, especially in the fields of law and theory. The Realism-Idealism debate, which is seen as the first great debate of the discipline, and the English School, which is described as a middle way of these theories, are very interested in the intellectual foundations of this subject. The English School is the middle way of Idealism and Realism, and the rationalism of Grotius, who is seen as the father of the just war theory, constitutes the middle way within the three traditions seen in the English School.
